Muscles and masculinity are recurring themes in my creative output. Many so-called gay artists are too focused on erect genitalia and sexual situations. That type of image is often only pornographic and loses its artistic qualities. It becomes clichéd and the images lose their power in a battle with vulgarity.
Male strenght is like glowering embers. A warm, powerful force that emanates and enhances its surroundings. That’s the power I try to capture. The solidity of the body. The flexiblity of the muscles. The posture that reveals true strenght of character. The beauty of a strong, muscular neck. The will power that fuels the gaze. Goodness, righteousness and companionship are the character traits I want to communicate.
But I know that the things I find appealing and attractive, are perceived as frightening by many. But I belive that those who become afraid, are primarily afraid of their own reactions. They are not comfortable with masculinity. |
